Betty recently shared her craft with the South Suburban Chiselers and Illiana Wood Turners in South Holland, Illinois, presenting a demonstration on creating butterfly (bowtie) patches in woodturned bowls. The demo grew out of interest sparked by a white oak bowl Betty donated to the group’s raffle, featuring a distinctive butterfly patch. Known for embracing the character of imperfect wood, Betty also shared the story behind her heritage bowls, crafted from salvaged walnut taken from a fallen branch of a beloved tire-swing tree on her family’s Southern Illinois property. That single tree has since been transformed into sixteen one-of-a-kind bowls, each preserving its own piece of history.
